Wow, there are so many benefits from the ashwagandha that could help me.  I was looking for something to treat an enlarge prostate and went from one site to the other and ended up on yours.  Besides the many benefits you enumerate in your article, like building muscle mass, which would help a lot in my gym sessions,  I wonder if this product does the same as “Saw Palmetto” for prostate health?  If you look it up, Saw Palmetto has almost the same benefits as Ashwagandha.  What is you experience on this?

      Yes, you are right, ashwaganda can relieve symptoms of an enlarged prostate by boosting male reproductive system and strengthening the body. But Saw palmetto works another way.
      Saw palmetto works by stopping the breakdown of testosterone into its byproduct. It is this excessive byproduct that promotes the prostate cells to grow. In fact, the effect of Saw palmetto on a prostate is exactly the same as the effect of modern drugs for the treatment of enlarged prostate.

      Ashvaganda has nothing to do with this destructive byproduct. It is only an effective tonic for the male reproductive system.

  3. I’ve never heard of ashwagandha before I stumbled on your site, but now I’m intrigued. I’m always looking for ways to improve my health, or even just ways to feel better and have more energy. I love the idea of taking this in a powder for with warm milk and honey. What does ashwagandha taste like? Is it very strong?

      Ashwagandha root powder has a strong but tolerable smell and bitter taste, so it is indeed a good practice to take it with warm milk and honey in order to improve the taste. Or you can take it with hot chocolate (1/2 – 1 teaspoon of Ashvaganda root powder per glass will be enough).

    What a well written article!  It’s very rare that an article I’m reading answers my questions as they come up in my head.  You’re article did that very well.  When I started wondering how to take the supplement, you answered it.  And next I was asking myself about the side effects and you answered that as well!   You mentioned it was also known as Indian Ginseng, does our ginseng spice come from this plant?

      Ginseng is a completely different adaptogen that is widely used in Chinese traditional medicine. These two adaptogens are quite similar in action. There is only one big difference: ginseng stimulates the nervous system, and ashwagandha calms. Therefore, Ashwagandha can be taken at bedtime, but ginseng is not recommended to be taken in the evening because ginseng seriously disrupts your sleep.
