The Best Ashwagandha Supplement — Ashwagandha buyer’s guide for 2019

In a previous article we talked about the health benefits of Ashwagandha plant and found out that it is one of the  most powerful adaptogenic plants, can help to reduce cortisol level to fight stress, contributes to building muscle mass and boosts brain function. Let’s now discuss, what Ashwagandha supplements are available on the online market today, how these products differ from one another and which product can be called the best Ashwagandha supplement, based on the customer reviews from the most popular marketplaces.

How do you choose the right Ashwagandha

The active ingredients in Ashwagandha are a group of bioflavonoids known as withanolides. These flavonoids grant to Ashwagandha its strong ability to assist the human body to overcome physical and mental stress. But unfortunately, withanolides contained in Ashwagandha are not equally beneficial.

So, withanolide called Withaferin A contained in the leaves of a plant, in large doses can be harmful to the human body. In contrast, the use of Withanolides contained in the roots of a plant does not have negative consequences.

Today on the market there are only two very well researched, branded and patented methods to extract Ashwagandha: the first one is called KSM-66 and the second is Sensoril.

Check greenSensoril is an Ashwagandha extract that have very high Withanolides content — 10% at least. Sensoril is extracted from a unique combination of both leaves and roots of the Ashwagandha plant in order to obtain a high ratio of withanolides. High ratio of withanolides means that Sensoril is very effective. It helps to treat heavy stress, or help those who have trouble sleeping. Sensoril may seem a little bit dangerous to use, based on the warning we mentioned earlier, however they filter out the most of Withaferin А and so it is becomes completely not dangerous for use.

Check greenAlternatively, KSM-66 is extracted from the roots only and has optimum concentration of Withanolides – about 5%. The idea behind creation of KSM-66 was not just to obtain the maximum of withanolides, but getting them in the proper ratios, similar to the natural balance of the plant. This makes KSM-66 a very low-toxic form of Ashwagandha that acts very similar to the traditional Ashwagandha root powder.

So which extract is better?

scalesBoth extraction methods are widely researched and considered to be safe and effective, though they serve slightly different purposes: Sensoril Ashwagandha is considered to be helpful to overcome everyday stress and restful sleep support, while KSM-66 Ashwagandha is used more in treating male reproductive system, boosting testosterone and enhancing sports performance. Many people prefer KSM-66, although some people respond better to Sensoril. So it’s up to you: you should find out what’s best for you.

  1. I really enjoyed your previous article on the benefits of Ashwagandha. This is the perfect follow up. I have a few questions: have you personally seen results from any of these yourself? I saw that the organic Ashwagandha root powder had high ratings from Amazon, is this, in your opinion, one of the best options? Great article and keep up the great work!

    1. Hi, Eric.

I used Ashwagandha during my studies in university, especially during exams. It really helped me to be more concentrated and deal with the stress of the exams.
In my opinion, the raw root powder is better (and safer) than other options. But it has a strong unusual flavor and bitter taste, so it is easier to take it in pills.

      Thank you for the reading.

  2. This is really an informative and educative post. I knew little about ashwaganda not until I read one of your article on it , I got educated on the plant itself, the benefits and things I need to know about it.Thanks for informing me on the ashwagandha supplement. I have problems with my sleep lately, so I think I should go for Sensoril ashwagandha.

    1. Hi, Lok.
Yes, that is a right choice. Sensoril ashwagandha is very effective as a sleeping aid, having calming and relaxing effects. It definitely worth a try.
      Best Luck.
